Each year, the City of Boulder Parks and Recreation Department partners with the Downtown Boulder Partnership to provide free bags of tulip bulbs to community members. Starting on Wednesday, Aug. 20 tulip bulbs will be available to pick up at eleven participating downtown businesses including:
Tulip bulbs are available on a first come, first served basis and limited to one bag per household while supplies last. Donations to PLAY Boulder Foundation are strongly encouraged upon pickup. The non-profit supports excellence in parks and recreation by mobilizing community support through education, philanthropy and advocacy.
Additional information on participating businesses and distribution hours can be found on Downtown Boulder Partnership’s webpage.
Tulips became a Pearl Street Mall staple in the late 1970s and now 15,000 tulip bulbs a year are imported directly from Holland to be enjoyed by community members and visitors alike. The giveaway began in 2006 and has remained a local-favorite community opportunity since – with the goal to enhance public spaces citywide.
