The Office of Independent Police Monitor is calling on young artists ages 18 and under to participate in an exciting art contest, with the chance to be featured in the 2024 Police Oversight Annual Report. The theme for this year’s competition is "Unity Through Accountability," a powerful concept that explores how police accountability can strengthen the relationship between communities and law enforcement, promoting unity over division.

Young artists are encouraged to express their creativity and vision through painting, drawing, illustration, or mixed media to reflect this theme. The contest is open to all youth who live or attend school in the City of Boulder.

The winner will receive a $100 Downtown Boulder gift card and have their art featured on the cover of the City of Boulder’s 2024 Police Oversight Annual Report. Top entries will be on display at Gelato Boy, 1021 Pearl St., during Boulder Arts Week.

“Our youth’s experience with policing and police accountability is wholly new from previous generations and it’s important to learn their perspectives,” said Independent Police Monitor Sherry Daun. “I hope expressing their experiences and visions through art becomes the first step towards youth engagement with Boulder police oversight. I am excited to see the results of their creative efforts!”

Submissions are due on March 21, 2025. For more information or to download the entry form, please visit https://bouldercolorado.gov/police-oversight-art-contest
