One Book One Boulder returns focusing on the climate crisis

The City of Boulder has taken a bold, innovative, and collaborative process to create systemic change that equitable addresses the global climate crisis

One Book One Boulder is back for 2021, with a focus on the climate crisis. The selected book, “All We Can Save: Truth, Courage and Solutions for the Climate Crisis” is a 2020 collection of essays, edited by Ayana Elizabeth Johnson and Katharine Wilkinson. Programs will begin in August and wrap up with an author event on November 4.

One Book One Boulder is an annual event that aims to bring the community together through the shared experience of reading and discussing the same book. Participants can get involved by reading or listening to the book, joining a book circle, and attending programs. This year’s events include climate centric storytimes, forest bathing with Boulder’s Open Space and Mountain Parks, art exhibitions, the Bee Boulder Festival, community panel discussions and more.

Programs, Outreach and Events Manager Jaime Kopke said, “What is powerful about this book is that it welcomes everyone into the climate movement, and it starts by elevating the voices of those who have often been left out – women. This collection of women-authored essays, poetry and art doesn’t shy away from reality of our situation, but instead asks us to step forward with creativity and compassion, together.”

“One Book” programs seek to bring the community together through reading and discussing the same title. The American Library Association refers to these programs as a way to “create a shared experience of reading among a wide spectrum of people.” The Boulder Library and the Boulder Library Foundation are excited for this second annual event.

The City of Boulder has taken a bold, innovative, and collaborative process to create systemic change that equitable addresses the global climate crisis and ensures quality of life in Boulder and beyond. In 2019 the city declared a Climate Emergency and has made a commitment to have 100% renewable electricity by 2030, an 80% reduction of city organization emissions by 2030, and an 80% reduction of community greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
