Investigators continue to seek information from community

Boulder police have obtained and are releasing additional photos of a person of interest in a reported assault that occurred Thursday evening, Oct. 23, in the 2700 block of Baseline Road.

Officers responded to the scene shortly after 7 p.m. after a male victim called 911 to report that while he was riding his bike, a man on roller blades approached him from behind and assaulted him verbally and with a hockey stick. The victim was not seriously injured and declined medical treatment.

The Police Department released some available images on Thursday night, but detectives have since been able to obtain images that are of better quality. They would like to speak with any witnesses who have not yet come forward or anyone who may have information about the identity of the individual in the photographs. The detective assigned to the case is Detective E. Starks, Starkse@bouldercolorado.gov or at 303-441-3067. The case number is #25-10213.

Based on preliminary information, it appears as if the suspect may have followed the victim from the University of Colorado Boulder campus onto Baseline Road just prior to the assault taking place. In the interest of transparency, detectives are also confirming that they are aware that the victim was the subject of some social media posts and a digital flyer circulated by others prior to last night’s incident. Whether these played a role in the reported assault is part of the investigation, and police are not commenting further on this finding.

The department is not releasing the identity of the victim at this time, consistent with victim privacy practices.

“The investigative focus right now is on speaking with any witnesses and on identifying and locating the individual in the photos so that we can better understand what occurred and why,” spokesperson Sarah Huntley said.

Additional updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
