Boulder’s City Council and Parks and Recreation Advisory Board recently approved a lease agreement with Tanoa Inc. to operate a full-service restaurant and community gathering space in a new facility under construction at Flatirons Golf Course. The restaurant is tentatively named Ironwood Bar and Grille and is scheduled to open summer 2024.

The new restaurant is designed to appeal to both golfers and the entire community. It will serve American cuisine with sit down and to-go options. The adjacent lawn and event areas can accommodate up to 175 people for small to medium-size special events. All events will adhere to the city’s noise and lighting ordinances and special events guidelines.

The planned hours of operation for the facility and patio areas will mirror or expand beyond operating hours of the golf course. The facility plans to operate throughout the year.

“This new restaurant and the spaces around it are a part of the city and community’s vision for a special place at the golf course to eat and hold community activities and events,” said Parks and Recreation Director Ali Rhodes. “We’re so happy to partner with Boulder locals, Noah and Tanya Westby, to create a spot where golfers, neighbors and folks from all over the community can enjoy some great food with Flatiron views.”

The restaurant will remain a city property with Noah and Tanya Westby of Tanoa Inc. leasing the facility for five years, with the option to renew. Tanoa Inc intends to apply for a liquor license to provide a wide variety of beverages to community members.

Noah and Tanya Westby have co-owned and operated Dagabi Tapas Bar in north Boulder since October 2003, creating a delightful dining experience for the Boulder community. In addition, Noah owned and operated Trident Café from 1998-2015.

"We are thrilled to embark on the journey of owning and operating Ironwood Bar and Grille at Flatirons Golf Course,” said Tanya Westby. “Our vision is to cultivate a vibrant sense of community, maintaining ‘old Boulder’ vibes while being ‘future Boulder,’ by offering a gathering place where local families and friends can come together in this incredible restaurant facility, to savor great food, delightful drinks, and the picturesque surroundings of Flatirons Golf Course."

The facility is currently under construction using durable, low-maintenance materials and is being built in the footprint of the previous facility and surrounding areas. In addition to replacing facilities destroyed by the 2013 flood, the construction project includes upgrades to the Pro Shop, replacing the parking lot, creating a new drop off area, and installing vegetation islands, a rain garden, EV charging stations, lighting, and bike parking spaces in the parking lot.
