Our community appreciates being able to hike and bike on the north shore of the Boulder Reservoir between 55th Street and Coot Lake on 63rd Street. That means this trail gets lots of use. Boulder Parks and Recreation will be resurfacing, widening and improving drainage in a section of this trail along the north shore.

Work will take place between the Boulder Reservoir West trailhead and the aqueduct midway to Coot Lake from Monday, July 24 through Friday, July 28. The trail will be closed from Wednesday, July 26 to Friday, July 28 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., depending on the weather. Staff will work to have the trail open when construction isn’t happening.
Detours will be in place for pedestrians and cyclists to take an alternative path on the more southern shoreline trail. This path has a set of stairs. Cyclists are asked to walk their bikes along this pedestrian trail. Alternately cyclists may detour north to Monarch Road.
The work will include placing crusher fine material on the trail to a width of six feet. This will decrease muddy conditions, minimize widening of the trail, and discourage the creation of social trails. City staff will do vegetation restoration work after the trail is complete.
BPR has a long history of working with Boulder County Youth Corps and are happy that they will be providing assistance during the project.
Similar work in a section of the trail farther east will happen in the fall.
We always encourage visitors to “get muddy” and stay on the trail to minimize damage to plants alongside the trail.
Thanks for respecting trail closures and using alternative routes during construction.
