Regional collaboration reminds visitors to pick up after their furry friends because dog poop pollutes waterways, harms native plants and spreads invasive weeds.

The City of Boulder, Boulder County, and Jefferson County are teaming up for Let’s DOO It! — a regional effort on Saturday, May 17, and Sunday, May 18, to remind open space and park visitors to always pick up after their pets and help maintain the natural beauty of our shared public lands.

City and county open space and parks staff will welcome visitors at several locations across Boulder, Boulder County, and Jefferson County to encourage everyone to do their part — because there’s no poop fairy to do it for us. Join us to:

  • Snag free dog swag, including a “Let’s DOO It” bandana!
  • Take the pledge to BAG IT, PACK IT, CAN IT — always bag your dog’s waste, carry it with you if needed, and toss it in a trash or pet waste compost bin.
  • Help clean up open space and parks!

Ahead of the events, staff and volunteers will flag every piece of uncollected dog waste at selected sites. These flags will highlight how extensive the problem can be. The regional “Let’s DOO It” collaboration welcomes visitors to participate in events in:

Dog waste isn’t just unpleasant — it can pollute waterways, damage native plants, and help spread noxious weeds. Plus, leaving poop behind can result in fines, which can be better spent on a fun dog toy. DOO your part:

  • Always carry extra poop bags — and offer one if someone needs one.
  • If there’s no waste container nearby, pack it out until you find one.
  • Use sealable or compostable bags when available and dispose of them properly.

Let’s DOO our part to protect parks, trails, and open spaces across Boulder and Jefferson counties!
