Boulder’s Open Space and Mountain Parks staff and the Boulder Chamber light the Boulder Star on Veterans Day, Tuesday, November 11. Reminder that the Boulder Star area on Flagstaff Mountain is closed.

The City of Boulder reminds everyone to view the Boulder Star from afar as it remains closed to help protect nearby sensitive wildlife areas, prevent natural resource damage from sustained visitation over the year and minimize illegal activities that have been occurring in the area. See a list of open space locations to view the star below.

The annual lighting of the Boulder Star commemorates Veterans Day as well as kicking off the holiday season and rings in a season of hope, generosity and inspiration as the star shines brightly over Boulder. This year marks the 78th anniversary of the Boulder Star’s first lighting on Flagstaff Mountain in December 1947 and will continue inspiring the community members each evening through the end of the year. The Boulder Star has been lit throughout the years in solidarity and support for many community celebrations as well as tragedies that have shaped Boulder’s history. This year, the star has been improved with an innovative remote sensor that will conserve energy by ensuring the star turns on and off at precisely the right time and will also automatically turn off during high winds to prevent fire danger.
