About Michael
Commander Michael Heath is currently responsible for overseeing the Watch 1 shift of our Patrol Unit and the Traffic Unit. He also oversees the Homeless Outreach and Unsanctioned Camping teams, Community Services, the Pearl Street Mall Team, and the BPD K9 Team.
Commander Heath started working at the Boulder Police Department in 2004 and has held assignments in Patrol, as a School Resource Officer, as a Pearl Street Mall officer, a sergeant in Patrol, the Neighborhood Impact Team and the Special Enforcement Unit. He’s also an Officer Survival instructor with an emphasis on active harmful event response.
He has served on the SWAT team since 2009 as on operator, sniper, team leader, and assistant commander. He is now the SWAT team commander. He has also received numerous awards internally and externally for work during the Boulder floods, the King Soopers mass casualty incident and the Marshall Fire.
