Project Overview

Project improvements focus on:

  • Replacement of the existing bridge structure, which is now in poor condition.
  • Repaving of Central Avenue over the new structure and new roadway striping.
  • Removal of the existing pedestrian bridge and construction of a sidewalk adjacent to the roadway, over the bridge structure.
  • Reducing the posted speed limit to 25 mph on Central Avenue.
  • Public art.
  • New waterline and storm sewer.

Timeline

Construction will begin in September 2025, and substantial work is anticipated to be complete in December 2025. We anticipate completing remaining work in winter of 2026.

Construction Impacts

Once construction starts and through the end of 2025, Central Avenue will be fully closed to all eastbound and westbound travel between 5541 and 5600 Central Avenue. A detour route will be in place for people driving, walking and biking via 55th Street and Flatiron Parkway. See map below for more details or view Cone Zones for updates.
