Fire Department Community Outreach, Education and Permits

Road injuries are the leading cause of preventable deaths and injuries to children in the United States. To make matters worse, more than half of car seats are not used or installed correctly.

You can keep your child safe while traveling by having the right car seat installed in the right way. Correctly used child safety seats can reduce the risk of death by as much as 71%. Boulder Fire-Rescue is here to help ensure your family is safe on the road, too!

Have a Boulder Fire Engine come by for a visit to your community event. This is a great opportunity to ask the firefighters questions and see the fire engine up close. We are happy to come by for approximately 30 to 45 minutes to events such as nonprofit organizations, neighborhood association sponsored events and other community events held inside the city limits of Boulder. We do not attend private events such as birthday parties.

Availability: 7 days a week. We may not be able to accommodate all event requests due to firefighter training and other scheduling conflicts.

Have Boulder Fire-Rescue teach you about risks at your business or commercial property, how to prepare, and what to expect during an emergency. This can include fire drills and an explanation of your in-building fire system (automatic sprinklers, fire alarm, evacuation planning) if they are present.

With the help of the Community Risk Reduction team, assess how well your home is prepared for a wildfire event and learn ways to mitigate wildfire risk.

Have a member from Boulder Fire-Rescue Community Risk Reduction come and check your smoke and CO alarms. We’re happy to help install new smoke/CO alarms or help change the batteries in existing alarms. For homeowners that can’t afford smoke/CO alarms, we can provide them free of charge. We can also offer a risk assessment to help reduce slips, falls, and hazards in your home.

Smoke/CO alarms are not available to individuals who rent – this is your landlords responsibility to provide smoke/CO alarms and maintain them in proper working order.

Availability: 7 days a week. We may not be able to accommodate all event request dud to firefighter training and other scheduling conflicts.

The Community Risk Reduction team provides programs for older adults about preventing falls, what to do in a fire or other emergency, as well as a full risk assessment for the home. The team is open to conducting these programs for residential homes, small groups, or independent living facilities.

Ages: Intended for seniors 60 and older. However, depending on the circumstance other ages can be included.

Availability: 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday

Boulder Fire-Rescue can come to a school for an event or to speak to a class about Fire Safety. The purpose of the visit must relate to fire safety or to speak about job opportunities within the fire service. Depending on the request this visit may be from someone in Boulder Fire-Rescue Community Risk Reduction Division. A fire engine may not be who performs this visit.

Sound Off Program specific grades: Second and third grade

Come tour a Boulder Fire Station and learn what the firefighters do while on-duty. This is a great opportunity to ask questions about what it’s like to be a firefighter and learn all about the fire engine. We do not host birthday parties. Please be aware that the fire crew will remain in service, so the tour may end quickly if they are dispatched to an emergency. The crew may be late to the event if they are currently on an emergency call.

Please note, our fire stations and crews vary in size and may not be able to accomodate your group. We will work with you on an alternative plan if needed.

Who can visit? All ages however, younger ages must be accompanied by the appropriate number of adults.

Stop the Bleed is a national awareness campaign and call-to-action. Stop the Bleed is intended to cultivate grassroots efforts that encourage bystanders to become trained, equipped, and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives.

Boulder Fire-Rescue is happy to come to your event/organization/business and teach you three quick actions to control serious bleeding in an emergency. We do this to help build a more resilient community by preparing you to save lives if people nearby are severely bleeding.

Ages: 16 and older

Availability: 7 days a week. We may not be able to accommodate all event requests due to firefighter training and other scheduling conflicts.

Let Boulder Fire-Rescue teach you how to save a life. Compression-only CPR is giving continuous chest compressions of approximately 100 compressions per minute, without giving rescue breaths.

Ages: Typically, 14 and older.
