Giving back to military veterans and their final resting places, four members of Boulder Parks and Recreation‘s Forestry team joined over 250 tree professionals to prune the branches of a 40-foot ash tree at Fort Logan National Cemetery on Wednesday, Sept. 20 as a part of the Saluting Branches event.

Saluting Branches is an opportunity for the tree care and landscape industry to show their support for our troops by helping to make their final resting places a safe and beautiful environment for all who visit. This was the eighth year for the national event with the City of Boulder participating again this year.

“We’re glad we were able to participate again this year and take care of this ash tree,” said Forester Andrew Holt. “This year they had us focus on one tall, dense tree in the northeast area of the cemetery, which is one of the older parts. By removing branches and providing a clear path 16 feet above the driveways, we make are making this space safer for Fort Logan visitors.”

City employees who participated in the event were Holt, Forestry Assistant Crew Lead Broudy Fisher, Forestry Assistant Crew Lead Calvin Wing, and Forestry Crew Member Diekan Matura.
