Community invited to enjoy free events all month supporting biking and walking
The Boulder community is invited to celebrate Winter Bike to Work Day on Friday, Feb. 9 by traveling on their bikes and enjoying free breakfast, giveaways, and events all month. Community members can pledge to ride for a chance to win prizes and to help the region measure the impact of biking and walking.
Breakfast stations in Boulder will serve free food and drinks from 7-9 a.m. Participants can also enjoy free appetizers from 3-6 p.m. and giveaways at the Bike Home Happy Hour at The Local, located at 2731 Iris Ave., Boulder, CO 80304. Community members who aren’t commuting to work can still celebrate by taking their bikes out for a ride or by taking a walk.
The community can join free biking and walking events hosted by the City of Boulder, Community Cycles, and Boulder Transportation Connections to celebrate and support winter commuting as part of Winter Walk and Bike Week, including:
- Jan. 31: Fix a Flat Class
- Feb. 7: Winter Bike Commuting Class
- Feb. 9: Bike Home Happy Hour
- Feb. 10: Boulder End-to-End Choose Your Own Adventure Ramble
- Feb. 14: Maintenance 101 Class
“We’re excited to continue this annual tradition of biking and walking across Boulder,” said City of Boulder Senior Transportation Planner Ericka Amador. “Whether you work from home or plan to head into the office, we invite everyone to take a ride outside to enjoy community and camaraderie.”
“Winter Bike to Work Day is a great day to bundle up and give biking in the winter a try. On many sunny winter Colorado days, you actually don't need to bundle up all that much. It is also a great time to celebrate biking all year long. With almost 30 breakfast stations in Boulder and Boulder County, we hope to see you with the thousands of other people biking out there,” said Community Cycles Executive Director Sue Prant.
“Winter Bike to Work Day is a fun opportunity to get out and ride, even in the colder months — and our community agrees, as Boulder has one of the highest participation rates around the world! Whether you are a dedicated, year-round rider, or just want to join the merriment, we hope to see you out with other riders enjoying the event," said Boulder Transportation Connections Sustainable Transportation Planner Elaine C. Erb.
Winter Bike to Work Day is a statewide celebration hosted by Way to Go, a commuting program of the Denver Regional Council of Governments. The City of Boulder, Boulder Transportation Connections (BTC), Boulder County and Community Cycles partner to bring this signature community event to Boulder, including over 30 free breakfast stations in the county hosted by local companies and organizations in Boulder, Longmont, Superior, Niwot and Louisville. The event supports the City of Boulder’s Transportation Master Plan and Boulder County’s Transportation Master Plan goals.
