"Fish passage” project will help fish to better move up and down South Boulder Creek and improve aquatic habitat in the area.

Starting as early as Monday, March 11, the City of Boulder’s Open Space and Mountain Parks (OSMP) Department will start a two-month ecological restoration project to improve fish habitat along South Boulder Creek north of South Boulder Road.

During the upcoming “fish passage” project, OSMP will build new infrastructure – including a new irrigation ditch headgate, diversion structure and pipeline – to allow fish to better move up and down the creek and improve aquatic habitat in the area.

This upcoming restoration project will require OSMP to close a portion of the unpaved South Boulder Creek Trail near the East Boulder Community Center for two months. Community members will still be able to access the unpaved trail south of the Bobolink Trailhead but will need to detour back onto the paved South Boulder Creek Trail to continue south toward the bridge. The paved South Boulder Creek Trail will remain open except for two to four days in late March when OSMP will close the trail for additional work needed for the restoration project in South Boulder Creek.
