Eric Vences to begin on August 11

The City of Boulder has hired Eric Vences as the Boulder Municipal Airport Manager after completing an extensive national hiring search. Vences will begin his role as a Boulder employee on August 11.

Vences brings over a decade of airline industry experience at both general aviation and commercial airports, most recently at the Denver International Airport and formerly as Airport Manager of the Rantoul National Aviation Center. He has a foundation in operational leadership, public-private partnership building, and airport management, with a focus on building strategic, inclusive partnerships with community members and a wide array of interested parties from the local to federal level.

“Eric is joining the city with a clear dedication to public service and passion for aviation,” said Assistant City Manager Pam Davis. “His background will help the city continue to support Boulder’s thriving aviation community while fostering meaningful relationships with community and institutional partners.”

Prior to Vences’ hiring, Interim Airport Manager David Ruppel, a consultant with Aviation Management Consulting Group, had directed airport operations at the city since the fall of 2024. Contracting airport management work is typical in times of transition due to the specialized knowledge required to ensure safe airport operations.

“We greatly appreciate Dave’s expertise to ensure our airport runs smoothly in the interim, his strategic efforts to advance safety and operational efficiencies, as well as his contributions to a seamless transition with Eric’s onboarding,” said Davis.

Boulder Municipal Airport is a general aviation airport, providing business, private and recreational aviation services to the city and surrounding communities. Learn more about the airport at Boulder Airport’s Story. General information is also available on the airport webpage and airport FAQs.
