The City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks (OSMP) Department is inviting community members to review and provide feedback on a draft package of solutions for the Multimodal Improvements Assessment. The online questionnaire is open Aug. 14 through Aug. 30. Community members can review the draft package and share feedback through the project webpage. The questionnaire will also include a potential approach for how a southwest bicycle connection could be made. No decision has been made regarding this connection, and community feedback on the the potential solution for how this connection could be made will help inform a future recommendation.
The Multimodal Improvements Assessment looks at ways to improve how visitors access and travel to and within Boulder’s open space system. The assessment focuses on opportunities such as trail connections and allowed uses, trailhead and access point improvements, signage and wayfinding, and community education and outreach.
The draft package of solutions were developed using community input gathered during the first stage of the project, technical analysis and staff evaluation. Community feedback at this stage will help staff refine the recommendations before they are finalized in the beginning of 2027.
The assessment is intended to identify practical ways to make open space more accessible and approachable without a reliance on vehicles while protecting the natural, recreational and community values of the system. It also considers how multimodal improvements can support the visitor experience, reduce traffic congestion and advance the city’s climate and sustainability goals.
The Multimodal Improvements Assessment supports Action Item 7C of the Citywide Strategic Plan, which calls for improving transportation options and connections. The assessment also supports the OSMP Climate Action Plan and will help inform future work planning about access to Boulder’s open space system.
