2025 snowplow naming open to pre-K through 12th grade students

City of Boulder students are invited to help name 17 city snowplows for winter 2025 to 2026. Winning name submissions will be featured on city snowplows and winners will have the opportunity to take a photo with the snowplow they named.
This year marks the fifth year of Boulder’s Snowplow Naming Contest. Name submissions incorporating a “five” theme are encouraged this year to help celebrate this milestone.
How it works:
- City of Boulder students from pre-K to 12th grade can submit their snowplow names (with a parent or guardian’s permission) at bldr.fyi/snowplow2025 by Oct. 15, 2025.
- 17 winning snowplow names will be selected by city staff.
- The city will notify winners via their parent, caretaker or guardian’s contact information by Oct. 31, 2025.
- The city will invite winners to attend a snowplow naming ceremony and photo opportunity on Nov. 15, 2025.
This year’s snowplow naming contest builds on four successful years of running the contest. Over the past few years, winning names such as CTRL-SALT-DELETE and Mac n' Freeze were selected to be featured on the city’s snowplows.
“It has been incredibly rewarding to bring this contest to our community for five years, and to see youth in our community engaging with their local government,” said Transportation Maintenance Senior Manager Rene Lopez. “We are consistently impressed by the creative names and can’t wait to see this year’s submissions.”
