Here's some need-to-know information for the week:

City receives $900,000 in state grant funding to implement priority forest fuels reduction project

The city has been awarded a $900,000 grant from the Colorado Department of Natural Resources’ Colorado Strategic Wildfire Action Program to protect critical city source water infrastructure from wildfire impacts. The approximately 100-acre fuels reduction project—which was identified as a high priority in the city’s Community Wildfire Protection Plan—will be on city-owned property west of Boulder city limits, running from Kossler Reservoir on Flagstaff Road north to the Boulder Canyon Hydroelectric Generation Facility. The project will increase first responder access and protect a critical drinking water supply pipeline, two large electrical powerlines and the hydropower facility.

Staff are collaborating with multiple partners to plan and implement the project, including Boulder County, Colorado State Forest Service, Boulder Watershed Collective, Boulder County Fireshed, two fire protection districts and Xcel Energy. Planning and outreach will be conducted in 2025, with implementation occurring from 2026 to 2027.

The Department of Natural Resources will announce Boulder and other recipients of the Landscape Resilience Investments funding during the week of Feb. 24.
