In the city’s Civic Area, we’re rethinking urban park design for a strong connection to nature while cultivating recreation, community gathering, festivities and more. We have launched the Civic Area Phase 2 project and have heard your feedback so far.

We are now sharing what we heard from the first round of engagement! Our latest questionnaire asks you to review two possible themes for the park with possible park features. These design ideas are based on what community members have said from previous community engagements.

The questionnaire is available in Spanish or English and should take about 6 minutes to complete. Get your feedback in soon! The questionnaire closes Monday, Dec. 16.

A summary of what we heard that the community wants in the Civic Area includes:

  • Ability to attend more programmed events and activities
  • To gather with friends and family
  • To connect with nature through outdoor recreation and green space
  • Feel a sense of welcoming, inclusivity, multicultural celebration, and holistic storytelling
  • More opportunities to eat, dine, and picnic
  • Enhance and expand the Farmers Market
  • Interact with art

Community members also expressed frustration around illegal and unsocial behaviors in this area that makes them feel unsafe. The Civic Area Phase 2 project is a part of a multi-year and multi-departmental effort to create a more safe and healthy Boulder through collaboration with:

  • City operations teams
  • Safe and Managed Spaces team
  • Boulder Police department
  • Housing and Human Services department
  • Boulder County
