With November just around the corner, here’s some key information to know about Boulder’s next election on Nov. 5, 2024.

Key Dates

  • Oct. 11: Ballots begin to be mailed to all active, registered Boulder County voters (non-overseas voters). 24-hour ballot drop boxes open. Traveling or need to vote earlier? See voting locations under BoulderCountyVotes.gov for options.
  • Oct. 21: Vote Centers begin to open for in-person registration and voting services.
  • Oct. 28: Last day to be mailed a ballot. Also, last recommended day to return your ballot by mail (simply use a drop box after this date).
  • Oct. 29: National Vote Early Day.
  • Nov. 5: Election Day. Ballots due by 7 p.m. Postmarks do not count. Vote Centers open and Ballot-to-Go service begins.

Registering to Vote

Colorado does not have a registration deadline for voting.

If eligible and a new voter in Colorado, you can register and vote up to and including Election Day. However, if you would like to receive a ballot in the main, the last day to register or change your registration mailing address is Monday, Oct. 28. After this date, if eligible, you can still register, including online, but you must visit a Vote Center in person to request a ballot, vote in person, or use the Ballot-to-Go service.

In order to register, you must:

  • Be 18 years of age by election day
  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Have resided in Colorado 22 days prior to the election.
  • Must not be serving a sentence of confinement or detention for a felony conviction (NOTE: Those on probation or parole ARE ELIGIBLE to vote.)

If registering and voting in person, ID is required.

Ways to Vote

There are several ways you can vote.

Complete and Return Your Mail Ballot or Go Vote In Person

All ballots must be received by 7 p.m. on Election Day (Nov. 5).

You can return your ballot by mail (mail no later than Oct. 28), by drop box or to a Vote Center. Any Colorado voter may return their ballot to any official Colorado county clerk drop box or office/vote center. Below are City of Boulder locations. If voting in-person on Nov. 5 (Election Day), you must be in line before 7 p.m.

Note on Where You Can Vote

While Colorado voters can vote anywhere in Colorado, if you are voting in a county outside of the county you are registered in, you will have to vote an "Official Statewide Ballot" which will only have statewide contests, such as president, statewide offices, and ballot measures.
