The Boulder Public Art Program has selected artist Bimmer Torres to create an original two-dimensional artwork for the Western City Campus Parking Garage stairwell in Boulder, Colorado. Located at the southwest corner of Broadway and Alpine, the stairwell and elevator bay sit on the garage’s western side. The artwork will be visible to stairwell and elevator users, as well as from the street. The commission budget is approximately $100,000 USD.

"Infinite Flow" Mural
The mural spans the interior of a four-story stairwell, including the basement level, celebrating health, vitality, and the interconnectedness of the human body with its environment. Inspired by Boulder’s cultural history, the Alpine-Balsam site’s legacy, and principles of sustainability, the mural depicts a person walking with purpose—embodying an active and healthy lifestyle. Her trail of energy flows throughout the stairwell, transforming each level into a thematic exploration of health and wellness, connected to different parts of her body.

Mural Level Themes:

  • 4th Level (Head): Healthy Mind / Memories
  • 3rd Level (Heart): Love and Community / Heartbeat
  • 2nd Level (Lungs): Vitality and Sustainability / Air, Wind Current
  • 1st Level (Feet): Grounding and Strength
  • Basement Level (Earth): Energy and Origins

Alpine-Balsam Western City Campus
In 2015, the City of Boulder purchased the Alpine-Balsam property, formerly Boulder Community Health (BCH) hospital, for redevelopment. The reimagined site will provide new affordable and market-rate homes in a range of housing types and will be the future location of the Western City Campus to serve city customers and house municipal functions. It will include new indoor and outdoor public spaces, new streets and paths, sustainable solutions for infrastructure and buildings, increased tree canopy, a greenway for flood conveyance, easy-to-use travel options and managed parking.
