$900,000 grant will help support the city’s wildfire resilience efforts and protect critical infrastructure
The Colorado Department of Natural Resources’ Colorado Strategic Wildfire Action Program has awarded the City of Boulder a $900,000 grant to protect critical city drinking water and hydroelectric infrastructure from wildfire impacts.
The approximately 100-acre fuels reduction project, which was identified as a high priority in the city’s Community Wildfire Protection Plan, will be on city-owned property west of Boulder, running from Kossler Reservoir on Flagstaff Road north to the Boulder Canyon Hydroelectric Generation Facility.
The project will help improve forest health and protect vital infrastructure, including drinking water, hydroelectric facilities and key powerlines. The project aims to slow the spread of wildfire and increase first responder access. This work builds on past efforts to enhance emergency access and reduce wildfire risk in Boulder while supporting overall forest health.
The city is collaborating with multiple partners to plan and implement the beginning this year and running to 2028. This is one of many wildfire resilience projects the city is working on to help address and reduce wildfire risks in the community and across city-managed land. Learn more at Be Wildfire Ready.
