Here’s some need-to-know information for the week:

Water and heating outages in city buildings

Due to this weekend’s subzero temperatures, there are currently several water breaks and heating outages at the Penfield Tate II Municipal Building and the Community Vitality offices at 1500 Pearl St., as well as a minor break at the Park Central building.

Tate
The challenges at the Tate Municipal Building have been isolated to two baseboard heating zones in the north and west areas of the building. Other sources of heat are still functioning. While the overall temperature may be a little cooler, there is still heat in the building. It is anticipated that normal heating will be restored by early next week. Please note that the Tate Municipal Building elevator is also currently out of service as we wait for parts to make a repair. At this time, we don’t have an exact date of when it will be back in service.

Park-Central
The Park Central building has a minor pipe break in the stairwell that is causing an alarm to go off. We are working to repair the issue, and we anticipate having this resolved by tomorrow.

1500 Pearl
On Sunday, a burst pipe was discovered at the 1500 Pearl St. building. Shortly after discovering the break, water to the building was turned off to contain damage from water and ice. Unfortunately, the efforts to mitigate water damage led to the failure of the building’s boiler heating system, resulting in a freeze of the entire building.

A restoration team is working to defrost the boiler system before evaluating the full scope of damage from the building freeze. The lack of water and failure of the heating system has impacted all the retail and office spaces in the building. In addition to Community Vitality, the Small Business Development Center (SBDC), and Downtown Boulder Community Police Center, there are significant impacts to four first floor restaurant and retail tenants in the building. We are working closely with CBRE, our property management company, to communicate updates on the situation to tenants. The restoration team is working diligently to get systems operational as soon as possible.

Community Vitality offices are closed to the public through at least Friday, Jan. 26. Community members can still reach staff by emailing parkingservices@bouldercolorado.gov or calling 303-413-7300.
