Here is some need-to-know information for the week:

City of Boulder Events and Information for National Preparedness Month

September is National Preparedness Month! This gives us a great opportunity to promote awareness and educate communities about personal, family, and neighborhood preparedness for emergencies and disasters. During this month, Boulder Office of Disaster Management and other public safety departments will host events and highlight information promoting the value of being a prepared community member for disasters. The City of Boulder is no stranger to fires and floods, which is why they are two of our preparedness priorities, however, the goal of emergency preparedness is to be able to keep as many people safe as possible during a disaster and then sustainably build back.

The below events will happen within the city this month, all are welcome to attend:

  • Boulder ODM at What’s Up Boulder Event on Sept. 7
  • Disaster Preparedness Basics Workshop, virtual, on Sept. 10
  • Disaster Preparedness Basics Workshop, Boulder Public Library, on Sept. 17
  • Disaster Preparedness Basics Workshop, virtual, on Sept. 23

Register for the workshops, and get more details, at https://boulderodm.gov/preparedness/events-workshops/, or by calling 303-441-3647.

In addition to the above events, community members may receive the following information:

  • Mailers sent from Boulder ODM to all addresses
  • Emergency Alert information in the City of Boulder utility bill
  • Emergency Alert information on Via Mobility buses
  • BVSD school newsletters containing disaster preparedness information
  • Emergency preparedness information with the Chamber of Commerce newsletter

Finally, during this National Preparedness Month, it is important that community members prioritize signing up for alerts and information so that each person can make the most informed decisions for themselves in the time that makes sense for them.

  • Sign up for personalized, and geographically targeted, alerts at BOCOAlert.org. You can indicate interest in receiving alerts for up to five specific addresses and can decide what form of alert(s) you prefer (text, email, phone call, etc).
  • Sign up for all informational alerts related to an incident by texting BOCOInfo to 888777. While these texts will not be specific to a location, they will provide you all information related to any ongoing emergency in the city or county.
  • Follow Boulder ODM on social media for videos, preparedness tips and information year-round on Instagram, X, and Facebook.
  • Follow city public safety channels on Facebook, X, and Instagram by looking for Boulder Fire-Rescue, Boulder Police Department, and City of Boulder.
