The City of Boulder plans to use a helicopter on Friday, Oct. 29, to help complete trail construction work on the Bear Canyon Trail south of Boulder. If weather conditions allow, the helicopter will move trail equipment and materials, along with large loads of soil that will help restore disturbed natural areas.
The use of the helicopter will help the Open Space and Mountain Parks (OSMP) Department to complete the construction of a new trail segment around sensitive wildlife and plant habitat in Bear Canyon. The entire Bear Canyon Trail west of the Mesa Trail remains closed from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, though OSMP anticipates re-opening the trail in the coming weeks.
Trail construction in Bear Canyon will continue even when the trail is open and visitors may encounter intermittent delays along the path. OSMP will continue work on the trail until significant snowfall occurs. Trail work will resume in spring 2022, when the project is expected to be completed – weather permitting.
