Man Arrested After Shooting at City Hotel; No Injuries Reported, Numerous Shots Fired

BOULDER, Colo. – The Boulder Police Department arrested a man for firing gunshots at the Millennium Hotel this morning. Thankfully no one was injured by the gunfire.

Just before 9:30 a.m. today, a University of Colorado Boulder police officer was driving on 28th Street when he heard gunshots near 28th and Arapahoe. The Boulder City and County SWAT teams were activated and coordinated a tactical response with additional police agencies and Boulder Fire-Rescue to enter the hotel. Officers identified the suspect’s room and as they approached the suspect ran out and down a flight of stairs. The suspect then exited a back door and began running toward Folsom Street before officers took him into custody.

The suspect has been identified as Antonio Orlando Lucero, 45, who was a registered guest of the hotel. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital to be medically checked out before being taken to jail on the below charges:

  • one felony count of possession with intent to distribute narcotics,

  • one felony count of criminal mischief,
  • special offender sentencing enhancer (possession with intent while in possession of a firearm),
  • one misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest, and

Officers recovered two handguns. Further investigation revealed that the suspect fired numerous shots in the area of the hotel, striking at least one unoccupied vehicle in the parking lot.

Detectives are still looking for additional witnesses and anyone with any information about this incident is asked to call Detective Burke at 303-441-4483 reference case 23-01694.

“We’re grateful for the swift response by all of the officers involved who prevented this incident from escalating any further,” Boulder Police Chief Maris Herold said.
