Planned closure of 30th Street and Colorado Avenue Sept. 10 to Sept. 23.

The intersection of 30th Street and Colorado Avenue will be fully closed to pedestrian, bicycle and vehicle traffic from Saturday, Sept. 10 to Friday, Sept. 23 to elevate the intersection and allow for the completion of two 30th Street and Colorado Avenue bike and pedestrian underpasses. Community members may experience delays while traveling this corridor.

During this time, people driving are recommended to use Arapahoe Avenue, Baseline Road, Foothills Parkway and 28th Streets as alternatives. People walking and biking are recommended to use the construction-free routes found on this map. As part of the closure, Regional Transport District (RTD) BOUND buses will be detoured, and some night work will occur.

The planned closure is part of ongoing work on the 30th Street and Colorado Avenue Underpass Project. Crews will be completing scheduled work that cannot be done with live traffic. The project is a critical part of the city’s Core Arterial Network (CAN) efforts and will provide important accessibility, mobility and drainage improvements to the intersection, as well as implement the city’s first protected intersection design to make intersection crossings safer and more predictable for all travelers. The project is scheduled for completion in early 2023.

This intersection is one of the busiest in the city and connects the Boulder community and the University of Colorado Boulder (CU) main and east campuses. The city is working closely with CU to allow student buses to pass through the area during the day and to avoid work on football home game days.

“We thank the community members who travel this corridor every day for their patience as this work occurs,” said Transportation Sr. Planner Nathan Pope. “We understand the closure will be an inconvenience but are also looking forward to the long-term safety and mobility impacts this project will have once it is completed.”
