Civic Area phase 2 project open house on Saturday, February 24 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with local musicians Jeff and Paige
At the heart of downtown Boulder is the Civic Area. Bordered by Canyon Blvd. to the north, Arapahoe Avenue to the south, 9th Street to the West and 14th Street to the East, the Civic Area Phase 2 project looks to rethink this space for the future. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24 the city invites you to share your thoughts and feelings about the Civic Area at an open house in the space east of the library, north of Boulder Creek.
Following the work completed in Phase 1 of the Civic Area project in 2018, the city is now starting the process for the engagement, design and implementation of phase 2 for the Civic Area project.
“This open house is an opportunity for community members to share activities they currently do in the park, brainstorm new ways to activate the park, and think of creative possibilities for the Civic Area’s future,” said Senior Landscape Architect Shihomi Kuriyagawa. “This round of community engagement is focused on gathering overall thoughts and feelings surrounding the Civic Area with later engagement opportunities focused on more specific ideas for the future.”
City staff will have questionnaires, map activities, and ways to share your ideas to make the best Civic Area space for the community.
Local musicians Jeff and Paige will lead community members on a “discovery parade” at 11 a.m. to see all aspects of the Civic Area space and then perform until 1 p.m. Jeff and Paige show how excited they are to join us:
Community members of all ages are welcome to attend the open house.
Parking is available in the library’s lot off Arapahoe Avenue or the small parking lot off Canyon Blvd. All transportation modes are encouraged to come to the event and can inform your thoughts on Civic Area accessibility.
City staff will also meet with multiple community organizations throughout the spring during this first window of engagement. The project’s engagement strategy is driven by the city’s Engagement Strategic Framework (PDF), which includes objectives, best practices and methods for seeking community input.
The community will have multiple opportunities to talk with city staff, see progress, and provide additional feedback through 2025. Civic Area phase 2 project design and construction is tentatively scheduled to start at the end of 2026.
