City of Boulder and Museum of Boulder partner on Boulder Strong Memorial

Here’s some need-to-know information for the week

City of Boulder and Museum of Boulder partner on Boulder Strong Memorial

The City of Boulder and the Museum of Boulder have partnered to honor the victims of the March 22 mass shooting in Boulder. The city and the museum are in the early planning stages for both short-term and permanent memorials. Consideration of input from the victims, their families and the community will be a core component of the process. Planning is currently underway, while being mindful of the necessary time for pause, reflection and response to the situation.

Currently, a temporary memorial fence at 3600 Table Mesa Drive is home to 1000s of items placed there by community members and mourners to express grief, sympathy and solidarity.

The community should expect the fence housing the memorial to evolve over time as future plans are considered. As a first part of this evolution, the Museum of Boulder, supported by volunteers, will be moving tribute items, from part of the temporary fence to another location a few feet away to allow better access and circulation in the area. The move is scheduled later this week, pending weather. Determinations about other items currently located on the fence will be made after the one-month remembrance.

Visitors to the tribute, or anyone in the community, who needs mental or emotional support is welcome to visit the Boulder Strong Resource Center. The center is located at the Chase Bank at 603 S. Broadway and is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

City staff are also working on several other items in the area, including restoring additional access to the Table Mesa Shopping Center, working with partners to ensure the community has an ability to support businesses at the shopping center and the future opening of services at the George Reynolds Library.
