Here’s some need-to-know information for the week:
City launching first phase of engagement on Monday, April 3 for Water Efficiency Plan
As part of a state-mandated update, the City of Boulder is updating the Water Efficiency Plan (WEP). The purpose of the 2023 WEP is to provide guidance for implementing the city’s Water Conservation Program in a way that is compatible with:
- The Colorado Water Plan
- The city’s water supply system
- Adopted water conservation goals
- Community values
Project engagement begins this Monday, April 3, to understand public concerns and aspirations. Feedback will inform the development of water conservation programs and the updated plan. An incentivized online Be Heard Boulder questionnaire will be available in English and Spanish from April 3 to April 28 to understand the community’s participation in existing and potential water conservation efforts, including Garden in a Box, outdoor irrigation assessments and commercial water use assessments, among others.
Community engagement will help the city understand the needs of a broad range of water users, including those in underserved communities, as well as where to focus potential incentives to encourage community participation in water conservation activities. The draft plan will be available for a 60-day public comment and review process this fall and sent to the state by the end of the year. Programs and projects as part of this plan will be evaluated and adapted as new information and data is gathered on impacts to underserved communities.
