We found that we were dealing with the same individuals on a regular basis and created the team as a means to break the vicious cycle. Our focus is to get the homeless engaged in resources that will positively change their situation.
Outreach Team Coordinates Efforts Among Advocacy Groups and Service Providers
Law enforcement personnel are constantly challenged to balance the individual freedoms of homeless residents while improving the overall health, safety and welfare of the community.
Why was the Homeless Outreach Team created?
What is the purpose of the Homeless Outreach Team?
- We are present and visible in areas where homeless gather in order to normalize police presence, increase visibility and build trust.
- Identify and proactively patrol secluded areas occupied by homeless and actively seek out those who are not engaged with homeless service providers.
- Develop working relationships with homeless individuals in order to provide appropriate resource referrals.
