Respect is one of our five city values and we are committed to equity, diversity and inclusion. We celebrate and support our differences across all spectrums, including but not limited to ethnicity, gender, age, disability and sexuality. Through our focus on racial equity, our employee benefits, and the many programs resources we offer our staff, we continually strive to weave respect for one another into the fabric of our organization.

Add your voice and talents to the City of Boulder and help us grow in service excellence for an inspired future.

Our Commitment to Innovation

The city began as a center for supply to miners, the venturers of their day, digging for gold in the surrounding mountains. Today Boulder continues to support entrepreneurship, with “the highest ‘high-tech startup density’ of any metro area in the U.S” according to the Boulder Economic Council and receiving the name “America’s Startup Capital” by Inc. Magazine. Home to The University of Colorado at Boulder, the city brings athletics and academics to its already entrepreneurial spirit.

Civic Engagement Brings Us Together

In addition to innovation, the City of Boulder promotes civic engagement through advisory committees, public meetings and volunteerism. Through transparency and participation, Boulder works to make our government your government.

The City of Boulder is Compliant with Recent Legislation

  • Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act (EPEWA): Beginning in 2021, this law requires employers to include compensation information in job postings, notify employees of promotional opportunities and keep job description and wage rate records. External and internal applicants to the city are provided wage information and the city has created a process for posting promotional opportunities.

  • COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE): As a result of the Federal PHE declaration for COVID-19, each Boulder employee was granted 80 hours of PHE sick time. Boulder monitors the federally established PHE orders to comply with the timeline and any extensions.

  • Colorado Healthy Families and Workplaces Act (HFWA): This 2020 Colorado law requires employers to provide two types of paid sick leave to their employees: PHE sick leave and accrued sick leave. The city’s paid leave policies are more generous than required by the law, but it continues to monitor these requirements.

  • Secure Act 2.0: While this Federal legislation has many facets, it increases the age at which retirees must begin taking required minimum distributions (RMDs) from IRA and 401(k) accounts and changes the size of catch-up contributions for older workers.
