Trailhead Description

Wonderland Lake Trailhead provides access to Wonderland Lake and South Foothills Trails and the Foothills Nature Center.

Hours

The trailhead is open from 5 am to 11 pm daily.

Restrooms

No facilities available.

Picnic Facilities

One picnic table is available at the trailhead. Grills and stoves are prohibited.

Transportation

4201 North Broadway at Wonderland Lake. North of Sumac and south of Utica on the west side of Broadway.

Bus Connections

The SKIP stops on Broadway right by the trailhead.

Parking

The trailhead has 19 standard parking spaces and 2 ADA spaces.

Accessibility

This area is identified as being mobility-friendly. See the Visitors Experiencing Disabilities Page for trail details. Sport chairs can access the dam for fishing from the Poplar Street access.

Hang Gliding/Paragliding

The Wonderland Hill hang glider and paraglider launch site, located west of Wonderland Lake and Foothills Trail, has three walk-up launch zones and a fourth launch zone accessed by vehicle drop-off (no parking allowed). The landing area for these launch sites is in the neighboring Foothills Community Park. There are no designated landing sites on OSMP property for this site. Please use designated access trails to get to the launch zones.

Foothills Nature Center

This converted farm house is often the site for OSMP slide shows and nature programs. It does not house public exhibits. The Flagstaff Nature Center at the Summit of Flagstaff Mountain has visitor information and a number of interesting interactive exhibits.

Bike Regulations

Bicycles are allowed on Foothills Trail and Wonderland Lake Loop Trail. Bicycles are prohibited on the Old Kiln Trail and the Hogback Ridge Trail. Bicycles may be ridden only on those trails that are posted with the international bicycle symbol.

E-Bikes

Class 1 and Class 2 e-bikes are allowed on the Wonderland Lake and Foothills South Trails. Learn more in the Guide to Electric Bikes on Open Space.

Fishing

A gem of north Boulder, Wonderland Lake is a great place to fish with kids. This site can be accessed from all bus lines that run along north Broadway, such as the SKIP, and is located along a bike path. Use of boats or floatation devices, and wading into the water, are not allowed. Visit the Fishing page for more information about fishing opportunities and regulations.

Learn about bringing your dog to OSMP. All dogs must be on a hand-held leash at all times in this area.

Ice on ponds and lakes

You can help to keep you and your pets safe by keeping them off OSMP's icy lakes. Many times, pets that fall into icy waters will be able to get out or self-rescue without assistance.

If it happens to you while visiting OSMP and your pet is unable to get out of the water, stay off the ice! Call 911 and Boulder Fire-Rescue will respond and rescue your pet!

Also, all dogs must be on a hand-held leash at all times in this area, which helps keep them safe.

Horse Regulations

Allowed on most trails. Off-trail riding is discouraged to protect rare plants and wildlife habitat. Learn more about riding your horse on OSMP.

Wildlife

Fishing is popular here and is allowed from the dam and peninsula only. State fishing regulations apply. Birds of prey are common in this area, mule deer and coyote are also frequently sighted as well as waterfowl on the lake. Mountain lions frequent the hogback ridges in this area.
