Take a glimpse into our transportation future with the resources below.
The city strives to create a sustainable transportation system that improves public health instead of contributing to the climate crisis. By electrifying our local bus fleet, supporting walkable neighborhoods and building multimodal infrastructure, we aim to make it easy and convenient to choose cleaner ways to travel.
Boulder is consistently rated as one of the most bike- and pedestrian-friendly cities in the country. Experience Boulder’s beautiful outdoors with more than 150 miles of bike-friendly infrastructure.
Find shared electric micromobility options across town. These smaller-scale travel choices help reduce car trips and provide first- and last-mile connections around the city, including to and from transit stops.
TIP: Use your Boulder Public Library card to check out a shared e-bike for free.
Ride the HOP bus to get around downtown. Three of our HOP buses are zero-emission electric buses, which means they contribute less to climate change. By 2030, our entire local HOP bus fleet will be fully electric, helping us operate more quietly, more sustainably and with five times more fuel-efficiency than before.
Modern electric vehicles (EVs) are more energy efficient and better for the environment than their gasoline and diesel counterparts, even when they are charged with today’s still largely fossil fuel-based electricity. They also contribute to better air quality and open the door for more than just driving.
Find over 52 free public charging ports at city facilities, including Chautauqua, the recreation centers and parks. Find paid public charging ports at downtown parking garages and businesses across town.
Save money and energy by sharing a car with other people.
Local nonprofit Colorado CarShare offers more than 50 vehicles in the Denver metro area, including several hybrid and electric vehicle options in Boulder. Their mission is to empower people to live a car-free lifestyle, and they offer reduced rates to those registered in a qualified affordable housing program, like Boulder Housing Partners. Learn about their shared electric vehicle located in the city's 1500 Pearl parking garage.
We provide a limited number of discount vouchers for income-qualified city residents to pay for part of the cost of an e-bike, e-cargo bike or adaptive e-bike. The E-Bike Incentives program aims to expand access to e-bikes, encourage more sustainable ways of travel, and continue to better understand the role of e-bikes in advancing Boulder's climate and transportation goals. The new and improved program aims to prioritize income equity as part of the city's climate actions. While the 2024 program is closed, you can sign up for email updates in 2025.
